Housecleaning-- the seasonal kind

Posted on Mar 12th, 2009 by rugged_gurl1 : The Virtue of Many Things In Life rugged_gurl1
Does anyone or families you know have trouble cleaning parts or the whole house?  I am a pack rat and its forever to well, unpack my rat and seasonal clean every season.  Motivation is one of the problems, any tips besides doing piece by piece and doing all in one breath?

I’ve watched those ‘clean sweep’ shows and they always suggest the three;

Keep
Sell
Toss

Well, I tend to Toss. I never Sell. I rarely Keep.

If you are a pack rat a suggestion would be to box up almost everything without looking at it and put it all in storage. Or the garage. With the clutter out of the way you should be able to shake the overwhelmed feeling of not knowing where to start.

Then bring out the soap and water, the elbow grease, the feather duster and get to work! After the room is clean you can go back to the place where you stored your things and find all your ‘treasures’ again!

Or, move. I did three moves in four months recently and I now only have things that weigh less then 40 lbs! With the exception of the fish tank.

Hope that helps and happy Spring Cleaning!

Thanks for your suggestions and you know what, I think I will try toss the boxes to the charities if they are still usable.  Hmmm, that’s lots of moves u r doing :o

Yeah. I don’t recommend the Moving Solution. Change in relationship status will do that to a person. Mom and I are moving into our new home so there will be one more move on the horizon and hopefully… that’s the end of it! Our new home is spotlessly clean so I won’t have to Spring Clean this year!

You know what is interesting? You won’t remember what treasures are in those boxes if you wait long enough! I forgot a box of ‘stuff’ at my best friend’s house for several YEARS and when she asked me if the box was mine I opened it up and WOW! Time trip! Did I need any of it? Nope. It all went bye, bye!

sigh, bye-bye for memory lane– boxes that haven’t opened 4 a few yrs.  Thats why I am still a pat rat, cannot depart with boxes.

the feeling of getting rid of the boxes is sort of like the feeling of having your computer crash… and you haven’t backed up the pictures! Yes, that happened to me and it wasn’t fun. I don’t remember what pictures I lost but I know they are lost and I can’t get them back.

So, it’s a pulling out of ones own skin and becoming raw and vulnerable when letting go of the past and it’s ‘things of remembrance’. Not fun but sort of refreshing when it’s all over and some time has gone by.
