What have you learned from the world?

...poetry reminds him of his limitations...

Hope is like a road in the country; there was never a road, but when many people walk on it, the road comes into existence.  ~Lin Yutang
Soon after President Obama was elected as President of the United States, a great deal of people saw hope all over the globe.  I see more learning opportunities for the world.  I see the world would open to exchange ideas, not necessary new, but more willing to compromise, listen, talk or helping other fellow human beings.  Thus far, after a few months of President Obama, people saw disappointment, economic statistics getting worst by the day, people addicted to some sort of something in life, people torn apart due to financial woes and unfold stresses that comes along.   Its almost daily, its almost difficult not to remind myself that the news of the state of economy would pop up at the news headlines.  Finding some sort of hopeful or good news becomes very challenging and yet a rewarding task for me to do.  Occasionally, a news or two out of the ordinary, even not very good ones could be a mixed blessings, due to the fact, life still goes on.  Hope of recovery therefore remains.   People still continues to conduct their daily lives with some hope and some are willing to share with others with the world.

What are your rules for life?

Rules what rules?  How about quotes that I try to live by:
If optimism is such a huge advantage in life, why are there pessimists at all?
Daniel Finkelstein
Language is the source of misunderstandings. Antoine de Saint-Exupery
An idealist is a person who helps other people to be prosperous. - Henry Ford
Our fatigue is often caused not by work, but by worry, frustration and resentment. Dale Carnegie
"A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort." Herm Albright
"The best proof of love is trust."
Joyce Brothers
"I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward." Thomas Edison
"Most people would rather be certain they're miserable, than risk being happy."Robert Newton Anthony
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work."
– Thomas Edison
“If you live long enough, you'll make mistakes. But if you learn from them, you'll be a better person. It's how you handle adversity, not how it affects you. The main thing is never quit, never quit, never quit.” Bill Clinton, former President of the US

Could you title this after reading?

Posted on Apr 14th, 2009 by rugged_gurl1 : The Virtue of Many Things In Life rugged_gurl1
This is a monthly blurb of my blog for my MSN Live (Discovery) title.  Usually, I would find something health or mental health related to post there.  This is a good opportunity to post it here too on Gaia.  I just came across this article: The End of Philosophy by David Brooks, a New York Times- op-ed columnist.  The article took me a couple of reads before I could figure out, its not about the end of philosophy.  Let me quote from what Brooks said: (Scientists/researchers) "They’re good at explaining how people make judgments about harm and fairness, but they still struggle to explain the feelings of awe, transcendence, patriotism, joy and self-sacrifice, which are not ancillary to most people’s moral experiences, but central."
Lets define philosophy: study of the ultimate reality, causes, and principles underlying being and thinking. It has many aspects and different manifestations according to the problems involved and the method of approach and emphasis used by the individual philosopher.
After I read this article, I feel really uncomfortable about: Darwin is making the way humans are.  (Survival to the fittest, men look after oneself etc.) I also understand that science will not be able to explain every single bits of emotions or feelings or logic as to what human does or to justify what we do or does it make sense when the research results comes out.
We have to account that moral reasoning can be hard to come by.  Morals and emotions are like a mismatched couple.  They do not come together unless they do need to.  We need both moral reasoning and gut(in the article, "moral emotions").  I am not a philosopher, but I certainly am a human.  I believe we have a problem recalling the past tense, the past mistakes, the human morality itself.  Its difficult to live the present, how to expect to relive the past again unless it is through movies or entertainment or through some expense of (some resources).  Philosophy, I believe, is just getting more complex rather then coming to the end.

If you were enlightened, how would your life be different?

Posted on Apr 9th, 2009 by rugged_gurl1 : The Virtue of Many Things In Life rugged_gurl1
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for April 09, 2009:

"The future of the world belongs to the youth of the world, and it is from the youth and not from the old that the fire of life will warm and enlighten the world. It is your privilege to breathe the breath of life into the dry bones of many around you.."

~ Tom Mann quotes
From the above quote, if I am really enlightened, I would be already not looking at ourselves, the present, instead, at our youth to continue the journeys of the world.  I do not think enlightenment is about just myself, but rather, To give spiritual or intellectual insight to one's lives.   Its to share my lights to our youths.  We would not be passing our naive to them.  We are not perfect beings, but at least, if I can try to make a difference to just ONE youth, in ways that they would like the rest of US understands them, thats just the beginning.

'Tough cop' takes in pup cruelly left in dump

Posted on Apr 13th, 2009 by rugged_gurl1 : The Virtue of Many Things In Life rugged_gurl1
The pup – rescued by a janitor from a slow death in the condo dumpster, then turned over to a Toronto Animal Services shelter where he was dubbed "Charlie" – joined new owner Mark Collins and his family at their 190-hectare farm on Tuesday. That the little Lhasa Apso was found alive inside a sealed cardboard box in the Willowdale dumpster was "like the hand of fate," Collins said link »

What is your body most worried about right now?

Posted on Apr 14th, 2009 by rugged_gurl1 : The Virtue of Many Things In Life rugged_gurl1
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for April 14, 2009:

My pain is mostly coming from the shoulders because I work a great deal on my computer.  I take a great deal of breaks. I seem to work better in the nights.
I do not have a prescription or a regime to heal my body, but I do prescribe some of what common sense such as: if my body tells me: I am tired, I rest, if I am in need of a walk, I walk etc...
My current reading is quite relating to what I am doing to my body, but I do not necessary endorse the book: The UltraMind Solution
ultra

I also pay attention to my spiritual side of my life, in that my body is related to the spirit, that I could discuss in another time or entry.

Who or what do you give authority to?

Posted on Apr 19th, 2009 by rugged_gurl1 : The Virtue of Many Things In Life rugged_gurl1
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for April 19, 2009:

Archangel Michael

I would not say so much of control or authority over of my life.  Rather its more of trust & consult to the angels & the higher power in my life.  Yes, I do believe in God.  There are the complexities that I am not going to explain right now because even I need more time to reflect upon & look at.  Perhaps in the future blog entries, tidbits of reflections will be highlighted.

This Recession is Wrapped Up!

Posted on Apr 25th, 2009 by rugged_gurl1 : The Virtue of Many Things In Life rugged_gurl1
Before you take this title too literally, please don't think I am advertising for this particular group.  I am not nor I am endorse the group.  Originally, I read an article from the Globe and Mail about how people cope with the recession.  There are more depressing & sad news that I begin to wonder when the yellow brick road would begin.  When I saw this article: Using optimism to deal with recession.
I see some hope, well not exactly, I am the kind of person who is always cautious optimist.  I went to the group site: This Recession is Over!
A brief description: Too much negative hype about the recession & enough of that, now lets get on with our lives & get some of the good news out there.
The only requirement of this group would be to post good news about the economy.  I do not know it has to be accurate.  I am into accuracy.  Enjoy!
